The essays in this book explore the intersections between poetry, poetics and other discourses, such as logic, rhetoric, natural philosophy, medicine, mythography and religion. Along with familiar figures like Reading canonical poets and critics – Sidney, Spenser, Marlowe, Shakespeare, Puttenham and Dryden, the authors discuss a number of less well-known poets of the period, opening up for discussion the relationship between literary practice and the Renaissance theories from which they stemmed.
